The Penelopiad
The following excerpt from The Penelopiad, by Margaret Atwood, retells part of The Odyssey from the point of view of Penelope. Focus on how Penelope and Odysseus seem different when she tells the story. (Read Chapters 1 and 6).
Bonus: Atwood also explores what the Odyssey would feel like to somebody who isn't wealthy. Read Chapters 2 and 4, and consider how different the world appears when the maids tell the story.
